Discover the delicious tastes of Italian Christmas with these traditional desserts.

While we're so excited to celebrate the new year with you next week and share many special meals together at our tables throughout 2014, today we are focusing our attention on some delicious Italian Christmas desserts!

With Christmas Day only two days away we know that there are many Italian families out there preparing for some traditional Italian meals. And we bet we know what will be on the menu for dessert; some tradition panetonne or pandoro!

Panetonne

A sweet bread loaf who's home is Milan, Italy, panetonne is comparable to cake in sweetness. Panetonne is often baked with candied orange, lemon zest or raisins, however, it can also be made plain or with chocolate!

Pandoro

Pandoro is a sweet yeast bread originally from Verona, Italy and is traditionally shaped like a star. The pandoro is usually dusted with icing sugar. Occasionally, the pandoro will be hollowed out in the middle and filled with cream or gelato.

We know that Christmastime is a time for family and home cooked meals, but we would love to invite your family to ours after the the Christmas rush is all said and done. Take a break from those leftovers and come to our table for some authentic Italian home cooking. You'll need a break from all that turkey anyways!

Please note that we are closed on holidays, such as Christmas Day, but we look forward to seeing you soon after. Buon Natale!

Visit La Piazza Dario for a little taste of Italy, both on and off your plate!

The Italian Renaissance produced many pieces of beautiful artwork that we still admire today. From Michelangelo, the Italian sculptor, painter, engineer, poet and architect, to sculptor, Donatello, to Leonardo da Vinci, who quite literally did it all, the Italian Renaissance has a special place in many art lovers hearts. And with brilliant men like these and the beautiful art they created, it definitely makes sense!

At La Piazza Dario we're proud to have renaissance inspired statues lining the walk way to our restaurant (as pictured above)! Turn into our parking lot, walk up the steps and down the path and you will truly feel like you've found a little piece of Italy.

And of course, the Italian experience doesn't end there. Once inside, peruse our menu and find your favourite Italian dishes, all made from scratch by our Head Chef, Claudio Ranallo.

We look forward to seeing you. Ciao!

Celebrating all that is Italian on The Drive!

Yesterday, Sunday, June 9th marked another year of The Drive's Italian Day on Vancouver's well known street, Commercial Drive. A street festival like you've never seen before, this year's festivities was named Carnevale di Venezia, which literally translates to Venice Carnival.

With balloons, street entertainers, and, of course, Venetian style masks, Commercial Drive, closed down for the day to accomodate all of the Italian festivities, food and entertainment. If you missed the festivities yesterday, watch the video from 2012's celebrations below to get a glimpse into what Italian Day is all about!

Assuming you didn't get your fill of delicious, authentic Italian food yesterday, pop into La Piazza Dario for a home-style Italian dinner you won't soon forget!

Learn more about Italian Day.
You know it's in Italy but discover exactly where the home of Chef Claudio Ranallo is!

By now, if you hadn't before, you've probably learned quite a bit about the beautiful region of Italy known as Abruzzo from the La Piazza Dario blog. From the region of L'Aquila, to the beautiful scenery that can be found within the entire Abruzzo territory, right down to Abruzzo's most well known dish, Maccheroni alla chitarra, or "guitar" pasta, we've covered some of the most fantastico aspects of this Italian region. However, you may still be wondering, "Where the heck is it?"

Hugging the coastline of the Adriatic Sea and beside the region of Italy that is home to Rome, Abruzzo can be found almost smack dab in the middle of Italy.

Have you ever been to Abruzzo? We'd love to hear about your trip in the comments below!
